Overview | n-Hexane is a colorless, volatile, and highly flammable aliphatic hydrocarbon. It is a straight-chain alkane widely used as a solvent in industrial and laboratory settings due to its non-polarity and low boiling point. |
Product Information
n-Hexane is a high-purity, volatile, and non-polar solvent composed of a straight-chain six-carbon alkane (C₆H₁₄). It is a colorless liquid with a mild petroleum-like odor and a low boiling point (~68.7 °C), making it ideal for fast evaporation in industrial and laboratory applications.
Commonly used in the extraction of vegetable oils, formulation of adhesives, and rubber manufacturing, n-hexane is also a standard solvent in analytical and chromatographic processes due to its excellent solvency for non-polar substances.
This product is available in various purity grades, including laboratory, industrial, and pharmaceutical specifications, and should be handled with appropriate safety precautions due to its flammability and potential neurotoxic effects with prolonged exposure.

Application(s)
1. Oil Extraction
n-Hexane is commonly used to extract vegetable oils from seeds such as soybeans, sunflower, and canola. It helps increase yield and is easy to remove after processing.
2. Industrial Cleaning
It is used as a degreasing agent for cleaning machinery, tools, and metal parts due to its fast evaporation and strong solvency.
3. Adhesives and Coatings
n-Hexane acts as a solvent in the production of adhesives, glues, rubber cement, and coatings, helping the product dry quickly.
4. Rubber and Polymer Processing
Used in the manufacturing of rubber products and plastics. It helps in molding, swelling, or dissolving certain materials.
5. Laboratory Use
n-Hexane is used as a non-polar solvent in chemical laboratories for chromatography, extractions, and organic reactions.
6. Pharmaceuticals and Cosmetics (limited use)
In controlled conditions, it may be used in the production of some pharmaceuticals and cosmetic ingredients as a processing solvent.
